MAY 27 DAY 18 AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL AIRPORT

After breakfast we leave the Owl Hotel at 6:15 am to catch the airport bus. At the airport we say a fond farewell to Merel & Rutger thanking them for organizing and giving everyone a most enjoyable holiday. After checking our bags and clearing security and passport control we hike to our departure gate E18. We board our flight

After sitting in our seats we are told this aircraft will not be flying and transportation has been switched from a 747 to a 777. We are given no reason for the change and instead of departing at 9:45 am we are re-scheduled to leave at 2:35 pm. We return to the gate amid mass confusion. New boarding passes were issued together with a food voucher valued at 10 euro. A new gate is announced   at E9. We twiddle our thumbs waiting to board. Upon boarding we are given wooden tulips and chocolates to sooth our troubled brows. There was a further delay as a "no show" passenger's luggage was taken off. After over 5 hours we finally departed

The saving grace with this entire experience was the flight only took 7 hours which normally would take about an hour longer, however, not the ideal way to finish off a smashing holiday

Merel & Rutger organized and executed a splendid hiking holiday. They covered all the bases and in the process gave us a comprehensive introduction to the Netherlands, it's culture, history and all things Dutch. Each hotel stay was memorable one due to the friendly hospitality and comfortable surroundings. Merel was always caring, solving requests and exercising patience with any group issues. She, like her Brother, took every opportunity to impart her knowledge of all aspects of Dutch life. Rutger's hikes were always very interesting and scenic. It was a pleasure to experience his easy going manner while offering his extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna. Anyone that has had the opportunity to participate in one of their Dutch Hiking Holidays can consider themselves to be extremely fortunate
