Today everyone went off on their own to explore the city. Meryl, Rutger and I walked through the expansive and beautiful Vondelpark. The park covers 120 acres and was opened in 1865 and originally named Nieuwe Park. It was later renamed to Vondelspark after the 17th century playwright & poet Joost van den Vondel.
Statue of Joost van den Vondel
Close to the shore of the pond we spotted this Coote's nest with her chicks
Very cute
Picturesque bandstand
We paused in the park for a cup of coffee at the Canal Coffee Co. We noticed the sign "No Pot Smoking"
Brother & Sister relaxing in the sunshine
This was an innovated structure for "lost &found" articles. Notes or the actual article were pinned to the green cylinder
I left Merel & Rutger and walked to my first and only museum! "The Heineken Experience". For me the line up was way too long so I continued back to the Hotel for my own Heineken Experience
Most of the group met up for a Pancake Dinner. Walking to the restaurant I captured another canal scene
Outside the "Pannenkoekenhuis Upstairs". It certainly lives up to it's name with stairs to negotiate at a very steep angle
Can you believe the chef makes tasty pancakes two at a time but doesn't like to eat them! I'm not so sure looking at his ample girth
Taking our orders. Our group took over the entire restaurant
Tasty savoury and sweet pancakes to share
Can't wait to be served! Sorry Merel the photo is unflattering due to the angle. Anyone would think you've eaten a stack of pancakes
Before calling it a night I photographed these interesting buildings which are on the same street as our hotel. They are known as the houses of 7 countries and were designed by the Dutch Architect, Tjeerd Kuipers in 1894. Each one has a distinctive architecture. Seen here left to right, England, The Netherlands & Russia
Italy & Spain
